Overview

Dr Julie Lawrence established The Brighton Day Surgery in 1997. It was declared a day hospital facility by the Minister for Health and Family Services in 1998.

Due to its small size it has a personal, reassuring atmosphere often missing in larger hospitals. It does however offer a first class operating facility in a convenient location.

All practitioners and staff maintain only the highest standards reinforcing its commitment to quality care for patients.

The Brighton Day Surgery specialises in a broad field of plastic and reconstructive surgery, hand surgery and cosmetic surgery.

Many operations do not require an overnight stay in hospital or a general anaesthetic but can be done as day surgery under a local anaesthetic, regional anaesthetic, or with intravenous sedation. The Brighton Day Surgery is an ideal facility for these procedures. The maximum time from admission to discharge is normally 90 minutes with many procedures taking only 30 minutes. This makes it very convenient for many patients with work commitments or busy lifestyles.

What type of operations?

Operations carried out at the Brighton Day Surgery include cosmetic procedures such as breast augmentation, rhinoplasty, eyelid reduction, ear pinning and cosmetic injections. As well as the treatment of skin cancer and hand surgery, including hand injuries.

Dr Lawrence has admitting privileges at nearby Private Hospitals so procedures which do require an overnight stay in hospital can be done as inpatients at either Glenelg Community Hospital, Flinders Private Hospital or Noarlunga Private Hospital.

Specialised Nursing Staff

Her specialised and experienced nursing staff provide professional nursing care during the operative and recovery phase. They are also available afterwards to talk to you about post operative wound care and to assist the surgeon during the healing process.

Agreements with health funds and other providers

The Brighton Day Surgery has agreements in place with all major health funds. Members of these funds who have full hospital cover will be fully rebated for theatre costs.

This allows financial security, particularly to older patients, many of whom are pensioners.

An agreement also exists with the Department of Veteran Affairs for the private treatment of veterans and war widows.

Out of pocket costs

The surgery will charge a fee to cover the use of the theatre and facilities. For patients who do not have full hospital cover or have an excess or co-payment there may be a gap for which the patient is responsible. You will always be told in advance of these out of pocket costs.

Patients without private health cover will find our theatre costs reasonable and competitive. Please ask for an estimate of these fees.
